What dose CBD oil should I use?
Getting the right dose is important to ensure CBD oil is helping your pet as much as possible. The main factor in deciding this is your pet’s weight and the reason for using.
We suggest the following recommendations:
Mild pain or arthritis, mild behaviour issues and mild anxiety:
0.1 - 0.25mg/kg twice daily. For a 10kg animal, that is 1-2.5mg daily. That is a quarter full of Paws CBD oil dropper.
Mild - moderate pain or arthritis, cancer, epilepsy, nausea, anxiety, behaviour, chemo side effects
0.25 - 0.5mg/kg twice daily. For a 10kg animal, that is a half full dropper Paws CBD oil.
Severe pain, arthritis, epilepsy or not responding to lower doses
0.5 - 1mg/kg twice daily. For a 10kg animal, that is 1 full dropper of Paws CBD oil.
Are there any side effects?
Dry mouth: Research has shown that CBD can decrease the production of saliva. For animals, this would manifest as an increased thirst.
Lowered blood pressure: High doses of CBD have been known to cause a temporary drop in blood pressure. Even though the drop is small, it might create a brief feeling of light-headedness.
Drowsiness: Pet owners have used CBD to treat anxiety. The calming effect of CBD can also cause slight drowsiness, especially when using higher doses.
How do you know what dose to start with?
We always suggest you work your way up. So start on the mild end of the guide above and observe your pet carefully over the next few days or a week. If you do not see any difference in your pet, move up the dose to the next category up and again observe your pet. Again, watch your pet carefully for how he/she responds.
What time of the day should I give it?
In the above suggestions, we have advised you to use twice daily dosing. You could also use CBD oil once daily and double the dose to make it easier to follow through on regular use. If you do this, we suggest you do so in the evening as CBD oil is know to promote good sleep and it may help help your pet during the evening.
What if I don’t notice any change after using it?
CBD oil is a supplement and enhances the health of your pet. You can try the following:
Increase the dose of CBD - using much higher doses than the above (even up to 20mg/kg) are known to have been used with good outcome. We do not suggest you try going this high without consulting with your vet first as the CBD oil may interact with other medications at this dose. CBD oil is non toxic and no human or animal death has ever been recorded as a result of it.
Timing of dose - try to space out the time of day you are giving the oil. Instead of using it just at night, try using it twice or even three times daily.
Ensure you are using the right dose - make sure you have weighed your pet accurately.
